Its a really simple way to show students that there is more than one way to say something. I provided a list of some of my favorites. Feel free to add one of your own by leaving a comment. ![]() Hello Isn't this a glorious day? Good morning my most (adj.) class. I love your cheerful attitudes this morning. Welcome to school on this magnificent morning. I'm pleased to be inside our warm classroom. Outside it is just frigid. ![]() Set some time in the morning for students to greet each other. You might notice that students start to use some of the new vocabulary that you've used in your greetings. This practice allows students to not just be passive recipients of language but lets them practice new words. It also lets them develop good social habits. I'm working on a new e-book. Help your students to expand into other genres by giving out a mystery award. ![]() To earn this award students will need to read four books in the mystery genre. You can, of course, alter this number according to your grade and your students need. You can get this award and many others in the Awards, Certificates, Achievements and More eBook. Whats so great about the mystery genre?
Do you think that mysteries are only for the upper grades?
Think again. The following books are great to use in the younger grades. If you liked the Little Blue Men from Space prefixes your going to love this new version with suffixes. Just like before students need to help the little blue men learn about our language by matching words with suffixes to create longer and more complex words. The download includes a playing mat, title, pieces pouch, playing cards, and a recording sheet.
Note: To those that have already downloaded the prefixes version I've discovered some mistakes and am fixing them now. When I've finished I will repost the updated version and will ask that you download it again. The free giveaway is over. You can purchase the game at the file folder - printables page. Little Blue Men are coming to earth and are trying to learn English. They already learned some prefixes and they've sent out scouts to collect words. Your students job is to match root words to a prefixes, then record their observations on a recording sheet. (Note: I'm using root word here to mean any word that a prefix can be added to, not the smallest unit of meaning. I'm doing this to have students focus on the prefix and its meaning.)
